Principle of Right Knowledge Acquisition Learning To Unlearn And Relearn Once you say that you've learnt something you tend to close your mind to some extent, regarding further learning on that matter. This attitude should be one of "I am learning to be/do" etc. That way you keep open to further learning opportunities on all resourceful subjects. The low cost, internet-booking airlines shook up the airline industry giving the major established companies severe competition. Starting from scratch they had no unlearning to do and soared ahead on a new track. Trying to counteract this new competition was only successfully managed by the existing traditional airlines when they realised they had to unlearn their existing ways of doing things and relearn the new system. Most of them started from scratch again with new off-shoot subsidiaries. What do you need to unlearn about how you have being doing things because that's the way they have always been done or it's the only way you know how at present? Activity 4 Think of all of your daily activities and assess each on its own merit. Ask yourself: Is that the best way to do it? Do I do it that way because 'that's the way it always has been done'? Is there a more effective and efficient way? This can be a hugely rewarding exercise that can lead to significant cost and resource efficiencies. Be as analytical as possible, ask as many quality questions as you can about your current activities. Don't only look to direct competitors as source of inspiration (they're probably doing the same things as you). Look at other sectors, other markets.
